❧ Editor's Note · Quick Answer ❧

"Yes — we staff Florida. Miami to the Panhandle. Every worker is a W-2 employee of an insured partner agency. Art Basel logistics are handled; peak-week premiums are disclosed on the quote, never discovered on the invoice."

M. Hayward · Founder & Editor-at-Large

TempGuru covers 10 Florida cities with W-2 event staff. Miami is the primary market — Art Basel, Design Miami, and the winter gala circuit drive December demand to near-100% capacity 6-8 weeks out. Orlando anchors the convention market with the OCCC. Tampa's waterfront district is the Southeast's fastest-growing corporate event market. Florida Safe Server certification is mandatory for all alcohol service. Rates run $26–$42/hr. Events confirmed 24–48 hours; same-day in Miami and Orlando.

#art-basel

Art Basel staffing books out 8-10 weeks in advance.

December Miami — Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Miami, Design Miami, NADA — fills the city's entire event labor market for three weeks. We start building Art Basel rosters in late September. If you're calling in late November, you'll get what's left.

#hurricane

Hurricane season is a contract clause, not a weather forecast.

June through November, every outdoor Florida event contract includes specific weather-call protocols: who calls the cancellation, when we pull crew, how much you owe for partially completed shifts. We call it early, protect the crew, reconcile the invoice honestly.

#heat

Florida heat is a safety protocol from May through October.

Outdoor events between May and October require mandatory heat illness prevention: shade rotation schedules, hydration stations, wet-bulb monitoring above 90°F. Crew who get heat exhaustion during a load-in are a workers' comp claim and a staffing emergency.

#safe-server

Florida Safe Server is not optional.

The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco requires current server certification for any staff handling alcohol at licensed events. We verify certification before every placement. An expired Florida Safe Server card grounds a placement immediately.

#tourism

Florida's tourism infrastructure changes the labor market.

Hospitality labor in Orlando, Miami Beach, and the Gulf Coast resort corridor is always in motion — theme park hiring, cruise ship pre-boarding events, resort conferences. Our W-2 model competes with the 1099 gig economy. We win on reliability and compliance.

#season

Florida has two seasons: peak and summer heat.

November through April is Florida's event season — mild weather, snowbirds, and maximum conventions. May through October is heat season — locals only, outdoor protocols, hurricane watch. We staff both, but the planning documents look very different.

Florida is the most seasonal major event market in the US. Miami's November-through-April peak is as intense as anything I've seen — when Art Basel week hits and the satellite fairs and the corporate gala circuit all collide in December, the city runs at full capacity for three consecutive weeks. We start building those rosters in September. The rest of the year, Florida is a perfectly good market with strong convention volume in Orlando, growing waterfront activity in Tampa, and steady corporate work across the southeast. But Florida in December is its own operating environment. The clients who understand that book early. The ones who don't call us in late November wondering why there's no one left.

Founder & CEO · TempGuru

Florida Event Market

Miami is the Western Hemisphere's leading art market city, hosting Art Basel Miami Beach alongside Design Miami, Art Miami, NADA, and satellite fairs that collectively drive 3 weeks of peak event labor demand each December. The Orlando Convention Center (OCCC) is one of the three largest convention centers in the United States, hosting 200+ annual events. Tampa's Channel District has become the Southeast's fastest-growing corporate waterfront event corridor since 2020.

Florida event staffing operates in two distinctly different seasonal modes. November through April is peak season — snowbird migration, Art Basel, convention after convention. May through October is heat and hurricane season — outdoor protocols mandatory, storm contingency clauses in every coastal contract, and a labor market that shrinks as hospitality workers follow the tourists north.
