02The Map
Built without a downtown, Port St. Lucie runs on four real centers of gravity.
Port St. Lucie grew outward instead of around a center. St. Lucie West, off I-95, holds Clover Park, home to the Mets' spring training and, the rest of the year, a full St. Lucie Mets minor-league season. Tradition, a few minutes further west, centers on Tradition Square, the closest thing the city has to a town green. PGA Village, south of both, is 54 holes built for member and tournament golf first, meetings second. None of the three was built to hold a trade show or a festival; that job falls to the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center, the 100,000-square-foot hall the city opened in 2008 and later renamed under a naming-rights deal with the local credit union.
The newest zone is also the one changing the map fastest. Walton & One, where US-1 crosses Walton Road, is the district the city is building as its first real downtown, and a 6,000-seat stadium is going up there for Port St. Lucie SC, a United Soccer League club set to kick off its first season in 2027. Groundbreaking is still targeted for later this year, so for now the four zones stay real destinations spread across a 20-minute drive rather than one walkable core. Clover Park, St. Lucie West. Mets spring training fills the six weeks from mid-February to late March; the rest of the year the St. Lucie Mets play a full Florida State League season in the same ballpark, so the venue rarely sits idle.
MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center. The city's one true convention-scale hall, 100,000 square feet under roof with the Emerald Ballroom and Ruby Hall able to run two events at once. Freight and registration crews split by hall, not by floor.
PGA Village. Fifty-four holes run on the PGA of America's own course directory, built for member play first and meetings second. Staffing here means smaller crews and tighter timelines than the Event Center's trade-show scale.
Walton & One, under construction. The city's first real downtown district is rising on US-1 at Walton Road, anchored by a planned 6,000-seat stadium for the incoming Port St. Lucie SC soccer club. Groundbreaking is targeted for later this year, with the club's first season set for 2027.
