Boise Centre already turns away hundreds of events a year for lack of floor space, and no single downtown hotel is large enough to hold a big group alone, so a trade show's room block often splits across several properties. Finding crew is rarely the hard part here. Finding them a hall, a hotel block, and a load-in slot that actually holds is the job.

Four clusters, one river, and a city still building rooms to match its own growth.
Work clusters around a handful of areas. Downtown holds Boise Centre, Idaho Central Arena, and the bulk of the hotel inventory event crews stage from. The Boise State district, just across the river on Broadway, packs Albertsons Stadium and ExtraMile Arena into a few blocks of gameday traffic. The Foothills to the north add trailhead and outdoor event space above the city grid. West Boise and the Meridian corridor, the fastest-growing edge of the valley, is where most of the new hotel and conference-room construction is actually happening.
The constraint here is capacity, not distance. Boise Centre reported turning away more than 400 events in 2025 for lack of exhibit space, and it already shows limited open dates into 2027. Downtown has no single hotel large enough to hold a bigger group on its own, so a convention's room block often splits across several properties instead of one host hotel. Venue and logistics notes
Boise Centre, downtown. 86,000 square feet split across two halls, built for groups up to 2,000. It is already near its ceiling: organizers reported turning away 400-plus events in 2025, and the calendar shows limited open dates into 2027, so a Boise trade-show date should be locked early.
The downtown hotel block. No single downtown hotel is large enough to host a big group on its own, so conventions frequently split their room block across several properties. Staging crew and shuttle timing has to account for more than one host hotel.
The Boise State district, across the river. Albertsons Stadium (36,363 seats, expanding through the 2026 North End Zone Project) and ExtraMile Arena sit a few blocks apart on Broadway. Game days close streets and lots around both buildings at once.
Idaho Central Arena, downtown. Home to ECHL hockey's Idaho Steelheads, seating just over 5,000 for hockey and up to roughly 6,800 for a concert. It is a separate building from Boise State's on-campus ExtraMile Arena, worth double-checking before a call sheet sends crew to the wrong dock.

07The Fine Print

In Idaho, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Idaho workers' compensation law (Idaho Code Title 72).
