The historic district is a grid you walk, not drive. Twenty-two squares break every straight line, so a van routes around them, and Broughton Street carries the core with the SCAD houses, the Trustees Theater and the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, a block off it. River Street runs along the water on a forty-foot bluff, cobblestoned, reached by steep ramps and the Factors Walk footbridges. Across the Savannah River sits Hutchinson Island, where the Savannah Convention Center holds the trade-show and corporate floor, reached by the Talmadge Memorial Bridge or the Savannah Belles Ferry. Out west of the squares, Enmarket Arena keeps the concert and touring calendar, and Forsyth Park anchors the festivals a few blocks south.
Three things bend every call time here. The squares come first: there is no driving straight through the district, so crew park once and walk, and a load-in with no dock hand-carries the last block. Venue and logistics notes
Savannah Convention Center, Hutchinson Island. The trade-show and corporate floor sits across the river, doubled in size by the recent expansion. Stage crew on the island early, since every shift reaches it by the Talmadge Memorial Bridge or the Belles Ferry, not a downtown walk.
Trustees Theater and the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, Broughton Street. The SCAD houses that run the film festival, premieres, and fashion shows. Historic rooms with no freight dock, so load-in hand-carries off Broughton and the carpet goes up before the tourist crowd fills the street.
Enmarket Arena, west of the squares. The 9,500-seat arena keeps the touring and concert dates. Its own lots and load-in off the historic grid, so route crew in from the west and staff it as its own order.
River Street and Forsyth Park. The cobblestone waterfront on the bluff and the thirty-acre park south of the core carry the receptions and the festivals. Plan the hand-carry down the ramps at River Street, and a heat-and-storm cover for Forsyth Park from June on.

Walk a film-festival gala at the Trustees Theater from the top. The board opens at 9 a.m., when 8 load-in and carpet crew build the red carpet, the step-and-repeat, and the AV off Broughton Street, hand-carrying it in because the historic house has no freight dock. From two o'clock the rest arrive on staggered calls: 4 on the credential and will-call desk, 9 ushers seating the eleven-hundred-seat house, 5 on guest services for the VIP line, the ADA seats, and the after-party. Three leads hold the carpet, the house, and the after-party handoff. By the time the doors open the count is 29, and what set that number was the carpet and the house, not the seat map.
