07The Fine Print

In Alberta, the expensive shortcut is treating event staff as misclassified contractors instead of employees: back pay, penalties, and joint-liability exposure under Alberta's Employment Standards Code. Alberta also runs overtime on an 8/44 basis -- time-and-a-half after 8 hours in a day or 44 in a week, whichever is greater -- so a long single-day Stampede or convention build can trigger daily overtime even inside an otherwise short week.
