California's overtime clock runs by the day, not just the week: time and a half past 8 hours in a single day, double time past 12, and overtime on the seventh consecutive day — Labor Code Section 510. A conference-week schedule that stacks a hall build, a keynote day, and an evening reception onto the same crew crosses that line fast, so we split the week into handoff shifts instead of stretching one roster.
