02The Map
A pier district mid-rebuild, an arena district brand new.
The pier and downtown zone holds the beachfront calendar: the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre at the foot of the pier, the California Surf Museum two blocks in on Pier View Way, and a strand that hosts festival footprints all summer. The working caveat through at least 2027 is the pier itself, about 90 percent reopened with the ocean-end hammerhead still fenced for reconstruction, which moves photo points, vendor rows, and crowd flow compared to pre-fire layouts.
Inland, the map is newer. El Corazon holds Frontwave Arena, 7,500 seats hosting three pro teams and concerts. The Mission corridor runs northeast to Old Mission San Luis Rey, an active parish whose grounds host retreats and gatherings on their own rules. And the QLN corridor off CA-78 carries the corporate load: 22,000 square feet of meeting space and a 700-person exhibit hall with its own parking. North of it all sits Camp Pendleton's gate, where events run on DBIDS credentials, not tickets.

Venue and logistics notes
The pier and amphitheatre. Free beachfront festivals stage at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre and along the strand. Until the hammerhead rebuild finishes, crowd flow and vendor placement follow the shortened pier, so walk the current footprint before drawing the site map.
Frontwave Arena, El Corazon. 7,500 seats, three pro tenants, plus concerts. Indoor arena work here runs on standard dock-and-doors logistics, the most conventional call sheet in town.
Camp Pendleton gates. Unescorted access requires a DBIDS credential with identity vetting and a DoD sponsor. Rosters lock early; a day-of substitute without a badge is a no-show at the gate.
Mission San Luis Rey. The King of the Missions hosts retreats and gatherings on active parish grounds. Load-ins are quiet, scheduled around services, and hand-carried further than a hotel dock would be.
03What We Staff

Beach and pier festivals set the tone: free-admission, high-throughput events like Super Girl and the Longboard Contest that need gate-free crowd guidance rather than ticket scanning. Arena events at Frontwave add ushering, guest services, and conversion crews on a year-round indoor calendar.
Corporate meetings book the QLN Conference Center and hotel rooms off the 78. Base-community and military-family events bring the credential-first work near Camp Pendleton. Weddings, retreats, and cultural events round it out at the Mission, the Surf Museum, and the harbor.

07The Fine Print
State law sets the clock; the base sets the badge.
In California, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and California workers' compensation law (Labor Code §3700). California's Labor Code §510 runs overtime on a daily clock: time-and-a-half after 8 hours in a workday and double time after 12. An Oceanside beach-festival build that starts at dawn to beat the marine layer and strikes after sunset crosses the 8-hour line on the same calendar day, so the premium is planned into the quote, not discovered on the timesheet.
