Venue and logistics notes
Chabot College Performing Arts Center. 1,432 seats in the main house plus a 111-seat black box and a 99-seat recital hall on one campus. A busy production week can run three simultaneous front-of-house crews with different call times.
B Street and the City Hall plaza. The summer street parties close B Street between Foothill and Mission and part of Main Street on the third Thursday of June, July, and August; Light Up the Season fills the plaza in December. Barricade, vendor, and crowd crews stage before the closure locks.
The I-880 flex corridor. Warehouse prep and load-out calls run on dock schedules and building hours, not event doors. Forklift traffic and shared yards make W-2 coverage a hard requirement, not a preference.

07The Fine Print
In a warehouse, misclassification stops being theoretical.
In California, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and California workers' compensation law (Labor Code Div. 4). California's Labor Code Section 510 puts an overtime line at 8 hours in a single workday, double time past 12, and premium pay on the seventh straight day. In a city where a lot of the work is warehouse prep the day before the show plus a long event day after it, the daily clock decides the crew rotation more often than the weekly one does.
