The buildings write the rules. The Civic's 1929 auditorium is a protected interior, so load-ins are white-glove and the concession footprint is what the house allows, not what the promoter wants. Lock 3 is outdoors in a canal cut, staged from street level. The Goodyear rooms load like the factory floors they were. Venue and logistics notes
John S. Knight Center. The 28,000-square-foot column-free hall sits on the second floor, so freight rides the building's freight path rather than rolling straight off a dock apron. Multi-room programs across its eighteen meeting rooms want a floater lead on turns.
Akron Civic Theatre. A 2,600-seat Eberson atmospheric house, one of five left in the country. Historic-interior rules govern what touches walls and floors; load-ins run slower by design, and ushers get briefed on the house, not just the show.
Lock 3 and the ballpark. The outdoor stage sits in the old canal cut below street grade, so gear and crew stage from above. Summer concerts, festivals, and July 4 fireworks flip to ice rinks in winter; next door, the RubberDucks fill 7 17 Credit Union Park about 70 dates a year.
The East End and Blossom. Goodyear Theater and Hall load like the 1920 factory buildings they are, freight elevators and industrial corridors included. Blossom, twenty minutes north in the valley, staffs a pavilion-and-lawn season from July into September.

Conventions and association meetings at the Knight Center set the weekday baseline: badge desks, room turns, and freight for the second-floor hall. Concerts and theater split between the Civic's atmospheric house, E.J. Thomas Hall's three configurations, and the Goodyear Theater's factory-industrial rooms, each demanding a front-of-house crew briefed to that specific building.
Outdoor season belongs to Lock 3's May-through-September weekend slate and Blossom's orchestra summer up the valley, while the RubberDucks keep the ballpark busy all summer. And every July, Derby week arrives: the All-American Soap Box Derby's world championship at Derby Downs, seven days of racing, ceremonies, and city-wide events that end on the Civic's stage. In Ohio, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Ohio workers' compensation law (R.C. Chapter 4123).
