Parks Canada enforces an 'eligible residency' (need-to-reside) rule that limits who may live in the Banff townsite to people with an established need, such as those primarily employed or operating a business in the park; Canmore, about 25 km east, is outside that rule, so much of Banff's event-crew pool lives there or in Calgary and commutes in.
