Downtown proper holds the Greater Tacoma Convention Center at 1500 Commerce Street — roughly 117,000 square feet of event space around a 50,000-square-foot column-free exhibition hall — twenty miles south of Sea-Tac. Down the hill along Pacific Avenue and Dock Street runs museum row: the Tacoma Art Museum, the Washington State History Museum, and the Museum of Glass, tied to downtown by the 500-foot Chihuly Bridge of Glass.
Then the parts of Tacoma that aren't event venues but drive event work anyway. Venue and logistics notes
Tacoma Dome, the Dome District. City-owned, 1,000 to 21,000 patrons, the state's largest indoor venue. Greater Tacoma Convention Center, 1500 Commerce Street. About 117,000 square feet downtown, with a 50,000-square-foot column-free exhibition hall that splits into 22,500 and 27,500. Registration, floor, and freight crews stage off the downtown grid, twenty miles south of Sea-Tac.
Museum row and the Foss Waterway. Tacoma Art Museum, Washington State History Museum, and the Museum of Glass line Pacific Avenue and Dock Street. Note for 2026: the Museum of Glass galleries are closed for a capital renovation while its Hot Shop runs Wednesday through Sunday — confirm which spaces an event actually gets.
Point Defiance Park. 760 acres at the peninsula tip, holding the zoo, the 35,000-square-foot Pacific Seas Aquarium, and rentable park venues. It sits a real drive from downtown, so its call times carry their own routing, not downtown's.

In Washington, the workers' comp carrier is the state itself.
In Washington, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Washington Industrial Insurance Act (RCW Title 51).
