The Holland Center runs touring and symphony dates a few blocks into the downtown core, and the Old Market, the brick-street dining and gallery district, draws the after-hours and activation crowd just south. Out southwest in Aksarben Village, Baxter Arena keeps a UNO hockey and mid-size concert calendar of its own.
Two things set the call sheet here, and neither is the venue. The first is which peak you are in: a Berkshire weekend in May and a College World Series run in June both flood the same riverfront blocks, and hotel and garage space downtown is gone early on those dates. Venue and logistics notes
CHI Health Center Omaha, North Downtown. The arena and convention hall in one building at the riverfront. Land the load-in crew before the exhibit-floor build starts, because on a Berkshire weekend the surrounding garages and streets fill well before the doors do.
Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The College World Series ballpark, a block from the arena. During the June run the concourse goes standing-room and the whole district books out, so stage and gate teams call early and park off-site.
Holland Center and the Old Market. Touring and symphony dates at the Holland Center in the downtown core, activations and after-parties in the Old Market's brick streets just south. Night work, tight curb access, and a walk from the nearest garage.
Baxter Arena, Aksarben Village. Southwest of downtown, about thirteen minutes out. It runs a UNO hockey and mid-size concert pattern clear of the riverfront crunch, with its own lots and load-in.
03What We Staff
Conventions and arena dates carry the year. The two peaks spike it.
Tally a season of Omaha bookings and conventions and trade shows carry the most crew: badge desks, floor teams, and freight through the CHI Health Center exhibit hall, steady from fall into spring. Concerts and arena shows come next, with load-in and crowd control for touring dates at CHI Health Center and Baxter Arena and the touring runs at the Holland Center.
From there it broadens. Sporting events spike hard in June, when the College World Series turns Charles Schwab Field into two weeks of gate, usher, and guest-services work. Corporate and shareholder events top out on the Berkshire Hathaway weekend and carry through the year on insurance and agribusiness meetings. Brand activations round it out, staffed by ambassadors who can hold an Old Market crowd or a College World Series fan zone.

Paying event staff 1099 is how the bill arrives late.
In Nebraska, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Nebraska workers' compensation law. Nebraska adds no daily-overtime rule, so event hours run to the federal 40-hour week.

The credential desks open before the sun, so 14 on registration take the check-in lines at 6 a.m. while 8 general-labor hands close out the exhibit build and signage that began at 5. As the doors come up, the floor sets: 10 ushers on the arena bowl and the overflow halls, 8 on crowd control at the doors and the concourse, and 4 leads holding registration, the floor, and the strike handoff. The count is 44, and what fixed it was how fast the credential lines had to clear, not the tens of thousands filing in behind them.
