Blaisdell Center cycles through concerts and expos, and the Waikiki hotels run galas most weeks of the year. Crewing the floor is the part that behaves. The hard part is the moat: every riser, every pallet of product, every case of glassware that was not made here arrived by ship or by plane, and a neighbor-island event puts the crew on a plane too.

Pricing runs by role. The core crew, general labor, registration, logistics, and ushers, bills $34 to $40 an hour. Supervisors and team leads run $44 to $50. The premium roles, bartenders, AV, and the brand ambassadors, run $50.50 to $70.50. Each number is already loaded with W-2 wages, payroll taxes, workers' comp, and general liability, so nothing new turns up once the containers are open.

02The Map
Downtown holds the harbor. The events spread east to Waikiki and west to Halawa.
The clusters read along the south shore. Ala Moana holds the Hawaii Convention Center at the edge of Waikiki, the state's largest exhibit floor and the anchor of the convention calendar. Kaka'ako, near downtown, holds the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, its arena, concert hall, and exhibition hall. Waikiki carries the hotel galas and the open-air Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell out by Kapiolani Park under Diamond Head, and the big touring dates play Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center up at UH Manoa. Halawa, west toward the airport, held Aloha Stadium, now down and rebuilding as the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District into 2029.
The water decides the rest. Anything not made on Oahu crossed the Pacific by container into Honolulu Harbor and got drayed the few miles to the hall, or it flew in as air freight at a price, because there is no truck coming from a warehouse two states over. We build the call sheet around the container's harbor window and the last inter-island flight, and we plan against a finite local pool, since Oahu is one island and the neighbor islands are thinner still.

Venue and logistics notes
Hawaii Convention Center, Ala Moana. About 1.1 million square feet at the edge of Waikiki, the state's biggest exhibit floor and the anchor of the international convention calendar. Freight comes off the harbor, so back call times to the drayage window, not a mainland truck ETA.
Neal S. Blaisdell Center, Kaka'ako. The arena, concert hall, and exhibition hall near downtown, running craft fairs, family expos, touring Broadway, and concerts. A long-planned redevelopment is on the horizon, so confirm which halls are live for your dates.
Waikiki Shell and Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The open-air Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell at Kapiolani Park under Diamond Head, roughly 8,400 across seats and lawn, and the 10,300-seat Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center at UH Manoa (renamed from SimpliFi Arena in August 2025 under the same Bank of Hawaii naming-rights deal), Hawaii's largest indoor arena and the room the major touring dates use.
Halawa and the airport corridor. Aloha Stadium is down and rebuilding as the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District into 2029, so its stadium-scale work moved to the arenas and the neighbor islands. Daniel K. Inouye International, a few minutes west, is the gateway for both freight and crew.
03What We Staff
Conventions and tourism lead. Then the arena nights, the marathon, and the neighbor-island programs.
Sort a Honolulu calendar by volume and conventions and trade shows sit on top, the international and Asia-Pacific meetings that fill the Hawaii Convention Center with badge desks and floor crews, many of them bilingual for a heavily Japanese and Korean attendee base. Corporate and incentive programs follow, and they are the reason a Honolulu crew spends as much time on inter-island flights as on the H-1, since a mainland company's Hawaii reward trip often lands on Maui or the Big Island.
Concerts and shows fill the Blaisdell arena and Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center and pack the Waikiki Shell on a clear night. Festivals and civic events run outdoor and cultural crews, the Honolulu Festival among them. And the December Honolulu Marathon is a category of its own, more than 35,000 runners and a course that pulls in crowd, course, and finish-line staff for a full weekend.

05The Clock

Book early and you lock the crew and the rate. Honolulu peaks in December, when the JAL Honolulu Marathon brings more than 35,000 runners, a large share from Japan, into the same weeks as the winter tourism high season and the year-end convention slate. A Kona storm or a big winter swell hangs a weather note on the outdoor dates, and the whole island runs on a labor pool that does not grow to meet the surge.

07The Fine Print
On an island this small, a 1099 shortcut has nowhere to hide.
In Hawaii, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Hawaii workers' compensation law.

09A Sample Plan
An illustrative staffing order.
Take a two-day incentive gala at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, roughly nine hundred guests, booked by a mainland company that picked Maui for the reward. Maui has no crew that scales to a night like this, so the crew is Honolulu's and it flies. An advance team of six catches the first flight the morning before to pull the container off the drayage and build the room, since the staging, the linens, and the AV crossed the Pacific in that box a week earlier and none of it re-orders from a warehouse. The next day the floor fills in: general labor by seven, a bilingual registration desk mid-afternoon, and the bartenders and guest-services crew an hour before the reception.
The plan keys off the flight schedule as much as the run of show. Every start time is set against the last flight home so nobody gets stranded, the leads carry the inter-island manifest beside the call sheet, and a floater stays on-island overnight in case a return seat or a case goes missing. Twenty-nine people, two islands, one coordinator who booked the flights, cleared the freight, and put the whole thing on a single invoice.
