Greenbrier is the closest thing to an event district: the Chesapeake Conference Center's 39,000 square feet of function space, a 2,500-capacity ballroom, and banquet service for up to 1,300 make it the city's indoor anchor, ringed by the hotels and chain restaurants of the retail corridor. A few minutes away, Chesapeake City Park's 90 acres host the Jubilee, the Wine Festival, and Symphony Under the Stars on open grass around the Bagley stage. Summit Pointe, the 69-acre district growing around Dollar Tree's headquarters campus, adds corporate meetings and street-level markets. And Great Bridge holds the battlefield museum and the waterways, where the Dismal Swamp Canal, the country's oldest operating waterway, slips south toward North Carolina.
The city's shape sets the operating rules. Nothing is walkable between sites, so a two-venue day means real drive time on Battlefield Boulevard or Greenbrier Parkway, and call times carry routing buffers the way a compact market never needs. Chesapeake Conference Center, Greenbrier. Over 39,000 square feet under VenuWorks management, with a ballroom that seats 2,500 and banquets to 1,300. Full back-of-house, real docks, hotel row next door. This is the one Chesapeake venue that behaves like a conventional event building; staff it like one.
Chesapeake City Park. Ninety acres, sixty of them open space, built around the 60-by-40 Bagley stage with electric and water service. Jubilee weekend in mid-May turns it into a four-day fairground for tens of thousands; crews load in Thursday and work the long Saturday, with everything arriving by vehicle and moving by cart.
Summit Pointe. The 69-acre Central Business District project around Dollar Tree's tower. Corporate functions run indoors on office-campus rules; the monthly Second Saturdays market puts 100-plus vendors on the street and needs setup, vendor-relations, and teardown crews on a retail clock.
Great Bridge and the waterways. The Battlefield & Waterways Museum rents for private events, where small hospitality crews work around exhibit galleries. Trail and race events along the 8.6-mile Dismal Swamp Canal Trail stretch staffing across miles of checkpoints and water stations.

In Virginia, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Virginia Workers' Compensation Act (Va. Code Title 65.2).
