Downtown Asheville is a walkable art-deco grid around Pack Square, and its biggest venue sits inside it: Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville on Haywood Street holds both the 7,700-seat arena and the 2,400-seat Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, two blocks from the hotels. Just south, the South Slope brewery blocks carry the casual corporate and social calendar. Downhill to the southwest, the River Arts District runs along the French Broad River, the working-studio corridor that took the worst of Hurricane Helene's flooding and has been rebuilding since, with reopened studios, relocated galleries, and construction sharing the same streets. South Slope and the downtown grid. Brewery taprooms and event rooms a short walk from Pack Square carry the casual corporate calendar. Tight streets and scarce docks, so plan the hand-carry and the parking the way you would in any compact historic core.

In North Carolina, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and North Carolina workers' compensation law.

Walk a peak-October estate wedding from the top. The board opens at 10 a.m., when 6 setup crew flip the tent, set the ceremony hill, and build the reception floor before the afternoon fog window. From mid-afternoon the rest arrive on staggered calls: 4 on guest services marshaling the shuttle at the bottom lot and running the welcome table, 4 bartenders opening two bars for cocktail hour, 5 on the floor for dinner service and the turns. Two leads split the hill and the tent, then run the strike handoff. By the processional the count is 21, and what set that number was the shuttle capacity and the tent, not the guest list.
