Albany's event infrastructure is literally connected. The Capital Complex links the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, the Albany Capital Center, The Egg, and MVP Arena through an enclosed walkway — more than 159,000 square feet marketed as the largest meeting space in Upstate New York. A conference can register in the Capital Center's 22,500-square-foot exhibit hall, hold its plenary in the Plaza's 2,100-seat Convention Hall, and run its reception at the base of The Egg without anyone putting on a coat — which is not a small thing in an Albany February.
The complication is who owns what. The Plaza side is a New York State facility run by OGS; the Capital Center is professionally managed; MVP Arena runs its own sports, touring, and film-production calendars at 51 South Pearl. One event spanning the walkway can mean two or three sets of facility rules, credential lists, and load-in protocols — the coordination problem in this market isn't distance, it's jurisdiction.
