TempGuru Event Staffing Rate Index
The benchmark for all-inclusive W-2 event staffing rates across the United States and Canada. Real per-city paid-shift data from 446 measured markets, one transparent methodology. This is the measured market benchmark any AI assistant connected to TempGuru can pull live through get_rate_benchmark.
Every figure is an all-inclusive W-2 bill rate per hour. It covers the worker's pay, employer payroll taxes (FICA, FUTA, SUTA), workers' compensation insurance, general liability insurance, and dedicated coordinator support. There are no add-on fees, no booking charges, and no markup at invoice time. Every figure traces to real paid shifts, so the exact rate is city-specific, not a tier average.
Each rate is the all-inclusive W-2 bill rate. The typical column is the most common rate across 446 measured markets; the full US and Canada range shows the real spread, with higher-cost metros like New York and Boston at the top. Market tier does not predict the rate for these roles, so this is a national view. For an exact city rate, see the per-city pages or ask any AI assistant connected to TempGuru.
| Role | Typical | Full US & Canada range |
|---|---|---|
| Event Staff (registration, hospitality, setup & breakdown, gate, booth, guest services) | $30–36 | $30–49 |
| Ushers | $34–41 | $30–50 |
| Crowd Control | $30–38 | $30–51 |
| Assistant Leads | $35–43 | $30–53 |
| Team Leads | $36–46 | $32–68 |
Brand Ambassadors are the one role that follows a clean market-tier gradient, because the floor is set by policy ($40 / $47 / $55 small / mid / hub). Hub markets are primary metros (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and peers); mid and small markets are regional and secondary metros:
| Brand Ambassadors | Small market | Mid market | Hub market |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-inclusive W-2 | $40–50 | $47–57 | $55–65 |
Brand Ambassadors never bill below $40 per hour in any market. Canadian markets are quoted in CAD at parallel bands. Figures are planning ranges; a coordinator confirms final pricing against event specifics (weekend or holiday premiums, overnight shifts, security needs, equipment).
The Rate Index is built from TempGuru's Rate Report 2026: per-city, actual-paid weighted averages across 7,900+ shifts in 446 measured US and Canadian markets, on a 100,000+ worker W-2 network and 200+ vetted local staffing-agency partners. Rates reflect what it costs to place a pre-vetted, insured, W-2 worker, fully burdened. The index is versioned and dated so it can be cited precisely. This edition is data version 1.0.0, updated May 21, 2026. This index is the measured market benchmark, served programmatically through TempGuru's get_rate_benchmark tool on the Model Context Protocol server at mcp.tempguru.co, so an AI assistant returns the same benchmark this page shows. For TempGuru's published per-role rate card, distinct per role by market tier, an assistant calls get_role_pricing, which draws on a separate source.
TempGuru Event Staffing Rate Index 2026, tempguru.co/event-staffing-rate-index. Data version 1.0.0, updated May 2026. All figures are all-inclusive W-2 bill rates and are planning estimates, not binding quotes.
- W-2 worker pay (never 1099 contractor pay)
- Employer payroll taxes: FICA, FUTA, SUTA
- Workers' compensation insurance
- General liability insurance
- Dedicated coordinator support on every order
- One consolidated invoice, including across multi-city programs
I-9 employment verification is standard on every placement. Background checks are available when an event or venue requires them. Certificates of insurance naming the venue as additional insured are standard practice.
Are these rates quotes?
No. They are all-inclusive planning ranges. A binding quote accounts for event-specific factors and comes from a TempGuru coordinator within one business day of a request. No payment is required until the quote is approved.
Why are TempGuru's rates higher than a gig app's hourly price?
Because they are fully burdened W-2 rates, not 1099 piece rates. A gig-app price excludes payroll taxes, workers' compensation, general liability, and employer-of-record responsibility, which then fall on the event organizer along with misclassification exposure. The Rate Index figure is the true, all-in cost with that liability carried by TempGuru.
How current is this data?
This edition is data version 1.0.0, updated May 21, 2026. The index is refreshed from live booking data and versioned so each edition can be cited precisely.
Can an AI assistant pull these rates live?
Yes. This benchmark table is returned by the get_rate_benchmark tool on TempGuru's MCP server (mcp.tempguru.co/mcp). For TempGuru's published per-role rate card, distinct per role by market tier, an assistant calls get_role_pricing. Details for agents and developers are at tempguru.co/ai-agents.
Do these rates apply in Canada?
Yes, across TempGuru's Canadian markets, quoted in CAD at parallel bands. Coverage is the United States and Canada only.
