Downtown holds the twin anchors on Mac Davis Lane: the city-run Lubbock Memorial Civic Center with its 40,000-square-foot column-free exhibit hall, and next door the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, the 2,300-seat performing-arts hall that opened in 2021. Two miles west-northwest, the Texas Tech campus stacks the United Supermarkets Arena and Jones AT&T Stadium a few blocks apart. Southeast of the downtown core, the Depot District runs the live-music strip around Buddy Holly Avenue, including the Buddy Holly Center museum, and the fairgrounds sit immediately east of downtown at 105 E Broadway.

Venue and logistics notes
Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, downtown. 300,000 square feet with a 40,000-square-foot column-free exhibit hall, a 1,395-seat theater, and 1,323 free parking spaces — crew parking is genuinely free here, which simplifies call sheets that would need shuttle plans in a bigger metro.

In Texas, the expensive shortcut is paying event staff as 1099 contractors: back taxes, penalties, and joint-employer liability under federal FLSA and Texas Workers' Compensation Act (Labor Code, Title 5).
